I don't do this often. But today I need to.
I need you to go here, to 'a diary of a mom' and read this post. It puts so eloquently into words what I think is extremely difficult for so many families of children on the autism spectrum to say.
And if you feel like you want to learn more, want to get involved or to help in anyway, an excellent place to start would be at the Autism Speaks website. There, you can learn more about what Autism Spectrum Disorder is, how it affects those who have it and those who are close to them, and then what you can do for these people. You can find out how to give a financial donation or you can find local organizations to contact that I am sure would appreciate your help in some form or another.
But please, if nothing else, read it. If not to just understand a little better.
Thanks.

I took a Special Education course for my teaching licensure program this year and did my special project on Autism Spectrum Disorders. I learned SO much. It was really enlightening. It's too bad that the general public doesn't know more about disabilities.
it really is too bad. i think so many people are either ill-informed or misinformed. especially when it comes to autism. simply because there is still so much to be learned about it and it covers such a wide array of disorders. i think a lot of people so often don't feel the need to be educated about things like disabilities unless they're personally affected. but when people have that attitude it leads to a lot of prejudice and stereotypes.
