What is Operation Christmas Child?
It is a ministry of Samaritan's Purse whose mission is "to demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ."
This mission is fulfilled at Christmas through the filling and sending of shoeboxes to children all over the world. They are packed and hand delivered by people just like you and me (and it can be done by you and me!) who love and care and pray for these children.
What are We Doing?
Basically, we're doing everything we can to donate fifty shoeboxes to Operation Christmas Child. Right now, we're in the process of figuring out the logistics - how much we're going to spend, what age groups we're going to focus on, what genders we're picking, etc. But since we just decided this, the main thing you need to know is that our goal is fifty boxes. But we're going to let God lead. Which means if things don't work out, we're okay with that. Or if things blow up and go crazy, that's great too. But we feel really good about fifty. We've prayed about it and talked about it and thought about it. And that's what we're shooting for.
Why are We Doing it?
Because God calls us to give. And we're really focusing on being more giving this year. And we want to stretch ourselves. And we want to find a way to get other people we know involved. Or even people we don't know! God says that wherever two are more are gathered in His name, He is present. We want this to be something that unifies people for a good cause.
We also really have a heart for kids. Plain and simple. Especially children who tend to be overlooked or left behind. And to be able to bring joy to these children's hearts through giving them some things they need, some things they want and sharing the love of Christ with them - well we couldn't think of anything better!
How Can You Help?
We're working on a way to streamline this process. But for now, just shoot me an email. My email address is steph.bredeweg@gmail.com. Anything you can do at all would be appreciated! We welcome advice, donations, and most importantly - PRAYER.
And THANK YOU! in advance to anyone who can help for whatever you can do! It means more than you know to us and to the children who will be getting these boxes in a few months!
The week to drop off boxes is November 14-21, so you have until then!

Hey, I wanted to let you know that the Staples ad for this week has a bunch of items in the "dollar days" section...I see lots of different small notebooks/sticky notepads, and some pens, which I always like to include in my boxes for older kids. So anyway, if you can get to a Staples this week, those could be great for the boxes!
THANKS laura! totally sent your comment nate's way and nate and i are definitely going to be checking that out. school supplies are on the TOP of our list so that's a HUGE help.
